Mr David Sands Johnson has been a Consultant orthopaedic surgeon since 2001, and has a practice almost exclusively within knee surgery. His NHS practice is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport.

David graduated from St. Andrews then Manchester University. His orthopaedic training was undertaken within the North West (Manchester) region, where he undertook a fellowship in knee surgery. He also graduated with a Master of Philosophy degree, from Salford University, following research into the outcomes of knee surgery.

His research and audit interests are varied being mostly centered on the outcomes of knee surgery. He has made many presentations and publications of his work. This work is on-going and he continues to supervise the research programme within the orthopaedic department at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport. He also acts as a reviewer for articles submitted to The Bone and Joint Journal, The Knee and The Cochrane Database; as well as reviewing applications to the National Institute for Health Research.

He is Joint Clinical Lead of the MAHSC Inflammation & Repair Domain and current chair of the Greater Manchester Orthopaedic Alliance. He has been the NW T&O specialist trainee teaching programme co-ordinator and will shortly be switching roles to support trainee research.
