Simon Donell was a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and the lead for research in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. He holds an honorary Professorship with the Medical School at the University of East Anglia. He was Co-Editor of The Knee journal from 2005, sitting on the BASK executive as part of the duties and latterly became President.
He was an undergraduate at University College London, and underwent his orthopaedic training on the Oxford Registrar training programme, and the St Bartholomew’s Hospital (now Percivall Pott Rotation) Senior Registrar training programme. His fellowship abroad was with Prof Henri Dejour, in Lyon, France in 1991.
He has been an ABC Travelling Fellow (1996) and a European Travelling Fellow (1993). He was Editorial Secretary at the BOA 2000-1, and an Intercollegiate Specialty Board examiner 1999 to 2006.
He is the Lead for Injuries and Emergencies and Co-Lead for Musculoskeletal Disease of the Local Specialty Groups for the Norfolk & Suffolk Comprehensive Local Research Network., a Specialist Advisor on the Interventional Procedures Programme for the National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE), and a member of the Knowledge Transfer Network Medical Devices Clinical Studies Specialist Interest Group.
